Finnair accepts dogs and cats in the cabin up to 8 kg including the carrier. On Finnair-operated flights a soft bag can measure up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm; on Norra flights its maximum height drops to 20 cm.

The operating airline changes the carrier size

The flight number is not enough: check who actually operates the aircraft. A soft carrier can be 55 x 40 x 23 cm on Finnair, but loses 3 cm of height on Norra. Hard carriers are much tighter at 35 x 30 x 20 cm on both.

Up to two pets may share one carrier if the combined total remains within 8 kg and both animals can stand and lie down. At the airport Finnair checks weight, size, documents and whether the carrier is suitable for the animals.

Booking early saves money and protects the pet space

The pet can be added online during purchase or through Manage booking before check-in opens. The cabin fee is €60 within Europe when booked at least 7 days ahead and €65 in the final 6 days; intercontinental fees rise from €120 to €130.

Capacity is scarce: Finnair usually accepts two customers with cabin pets per flight, and aircraft, weather or allergic passengers can reduce that number. A passenger ticket does not reserve the pet space.

Online check-in is unavailable with a pet. Long-haul Business does not accept cabin pets because there is no room under the seat; European Business and long-haul Premium Economy bookings require customer service.

Hold, cargo and countries that change the answer

In the hold, pet and kennel can total up to 75 kg on Finnair-operated flights and 50 kg on Norra. Above these limits the animal travels as cargo. Hold transport must be arranged through support and the kennel must meet IATA and aircraft requirements.

When travelling to or via countries including Great Britain, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Australia, pets may travel only as cargo. Check the destination before paying, especially when the itinerary includes a connection.

Besides dogs and cats, Finnair accepts rabbits, tortoises and hedgehogs only when the journey starts in an EU country; ferrets travel in the hold only.
