The real amount is not just the “pet fee”: add transport for every sector, crate, any cargo agent, certificates, transfers and delivery. Two dogs at the same weight can cost very different amounts on different routes and airlines.
Examples from official fee tables
- Aegean. Hold 8-25 kg: €50 domestic direct, €55 connecting, €110 international direct and €120 connecting. Above 25 kg: €90/95 domestic and €180/190 international.
- Austrian. From €80 domestic with a small crate to €380 long haul with a large crate; a €150 hub surcharge can apply.
- Aer Lingus. The operating process requires a pet agent. A published tariff states €160 per sector and crate on specific Ireland departures, but the actual journey needs confirmation.
- Turkish Airlines. Price is calculated by route and weight; above 50 kg combined or crate limits, transport moves to cargo.
Costs the initial quote may not show
- Compliant crate and required accessories.
- Veterinary visit and health certificate.
- Export/import procedures and possible veterinary inspection.
- Agent or cargo terminal when the pet is not baggage.
- Connection and multiple-sector surcharges.
- Ground transport to and from the freight terminal.
Comparable quote
Always request a return total using the pet's weight, external crate dimensions, every connection and the operating carrier. A “from” price without these details is not comparable.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the lowest price?
There is no universal minimum. Aegean publishes €50 on a direct domestic journey for the 8-25 kg band; route, weight and airline change the total. - Is the crate included?
No. A suitable container is normally provided by the owner and can be one of the largest additional costs. - Is the fee charged each way?
Usually yes. A return journey pays twice, and connecting flights may increase the amount. - Do transfers cost more?
They can cost more or make the service unavailable. Austrian publishes a €150 surcharge through certain hubs; Aegean separates direct and connecting fees. - Do cargo and hold baggage cost the same?
No. Cargo is a shipment quote involving a freight terminal, agent, documents and services unlike a pet-baggage fee.
